Job Description
POSITION:
Seeking a highly motivated, intellectually curious, self-starter to join a team of entrepreneurial professionals as a multifamily housing analyst/associate for deal underwriting, market analysis and administrative support. Must be highly proficient in excel and familiar with financial modeling. The candidate will be mentored by the VP of Affordable Acquisitions and Lead Underwriter, enabling the analyst/associate to progress quickly and succeed in a fast-paced environment. Also assigned oversight by Chief Acquisition Officer (CAO). The candidates primary focus will be providing support to the VP of Affordable Acquisitions to acquire: (i) existing affordable properties (ii) market rate multifamily or hotel properties to convert into affordable housing projects and (iii) development of affordable housing projects nationwide. The ideal candidate will have experience in the affordable sector and /or as real estate analyst. Candidates with no experience, but very strong excel skills may be considered.

We have purchased over $2.4 billion in assets, including over 100 multifamily assets. The acquisitions team will be investing the firm’s tenth fully discretionary equity fund (+$200MM). Assets acquired have included affordable housing, senior housing (IL/AL/MC), market-rate housing, student housing, adaptive re-use, hotel conversions and ground up new construction. The firm is vertically integrated from capital formation to development, to property management. No outside approvals are required for our acquisitions; all investments are approved internally. We are an active player in the multifamily sector and have the ability to close quickly on complicated assets. We pride ourselves on finding the best opportunities in the market.
LOCATION:
The candidate will reside in the San Francisco Bay area.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include deal underwriting, market analysis, due diligence, assisting the acquisitions team with processing both marketed and off-market transactions, as well as administrative support. The multifamily analyst/associate will also:
- Underwrite a significant number of assets
- Survey properties and markets
- Prepare rental comp analyses
- Manage due diligence
- Assist with administrative tasks
- Track affordable housing pipeline
- Perform property ownership research
- Complete market analysis and forecasting
- Participate in the weekly acquisitions meeting with the CEO, President and CAO
REQUIREMENTS:
- 1-2+ years of experience in affordable housing sector preferred, but will consider any multifamily experience
- BA in Finance, Real Estate, Economics or related field
- Knowledge of multifamily property operations
- Very strong work ethic, professional integrity, responsibility, and ability to learn quickly
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Entrepreneurial attitude and team-oriented personality
- Passion for real estate
- Solid analytical and communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate recommendations directly to other team members
- Commitment to excellence and attention to detail
- Required analytical and quantitative modeling using Microsoft Excel. Prefer advance excel users.
